Thesis Abstract:

bbygrl is a global parenting application which aims to ease the lives of the expanding community of single fathers with teenage daughters. It provides immediate solutions for any problems that the parent might face in relation to his adolescent daughter. Single dads don’t get the credit they deserve, bbygrl app helps tackle the issues which might be complicated or just plain awkward for a single dad with a teen daughter to deal with…whether it is about teaching your teenage daughter how to shave her legs or how to pick out the right bra for her, bbygrl has you covered.

According to Pew Research Center, “the number of single father households has increased about ninefold since 1960, from less than 300,000 to more than 2.6 million in 2011.” The term “single father” covers a variety of family circumstances – according to the Pew study, about half are separated, divorced, widowed or never married and are living without a cohabiting partner; about 40 percent are living with a non-marital partner; and 7 percent are married but living apart from their spouse. Raising a teenager is no easy task and it can be more daunting when you’re raising a teen daughter as a single dad. Without the emotional assistance of another partner, it can be challenging navigating the complex emotions, social situations, and changes your adolescent goes through. Through my research on the topic of single parenting, I have infered that there are very few solutions available for single fathers who have teenage daughters and do not understand how to approach a lot of the day to day issues that she may face. He has never been a teen girl and is most likely clueless about the things that she may need help with and thereby may not be able to help her with them.
